The world knows hundreds of Wagner pastiches and mash-ups, and his original operas are of course still played. But strangely enough very little has been done with Verdi’s music, not even parodies.
So I would recommend: If you want to see your nice 19th century „Traviata“ as your grandfather knew it just go to any opera house in your vicinity, chances are good that they will play it at some point.

Aber ist das ein Grund, eine Lamentation anzustimmen? Ganz sicher nicht – der Zauber des Theaters ist seine Vergänglichkeit, das Bestehen im Moment. Wenn dieser Moment bleiben würde, dann wäre er nicht ewig, das ist das Paradox des Theaters: des Theaters Ewigkeit ist eine Utopie ist und muss das auch bleiben. Wie ein Ritual den Glauben am Leben hält, so ist das Ritual des Theaters seine ewige Erneuerung im Angesicht der Vergänglichkeit.
Jeder Applaus ist eine Verpflichtung, dieses Ritual weiterzutragen.
