Darmstadt Style. A music video.
A year ago I sat on the train and suddenly thought: why is New Music always so apologetic? Why does it always have to find arguments to explain its existence, why does it always has to bear the stigma of being the odd one out, the weird one, the geeky one, the music that people switch off when they hear it on the radio?
Suddenly I realized that it’s all about attitude in the end. And I asked myself the question: What would happen if New Music composers were gangsta rappers? How would they express their stance?
The result was the following rap that I wrote in one single rush of creativity. I had the complete music in my head, but the problem was that I never got around actually writing it. So I continously postponed doing this song (but I told my friends incessantly about it until they probably thought I was crazy). But with the deadline of this years‘ „Darmstädter Ferienkurse“ („Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music“) approaching I suddenly thought „now or never“.
The video you are about to see is the most expensive in the history of the Bad Blog. A special stage was built, costumes designed, lighting and extras hired and a famous German theatre director was asked to direct it. The shooting went on for several weeks, followed by several more weeks of editing. At least one of the before statements is hopelessly exaggerated.
I have sold all my belongings and have officially changed my name to „MC Lunaire“. From now on I will travel the globe with my band, the „Darmstadt Bitches“, and bring the glory of the „Heavy Gut City Sound“ to the world.
I am not ashamed anymore.
I am a composer.
