The motivation for writing (and playing) fiendishly difficult music is….

Right now I’m practicing a lot of contemporary music (which sometimes can happen). And sometimes – when I try to decipher another one of these over-complicated bars with 20 different dynamics on 20 different notes, notated on 5 staves and with lots of the typical quirks of contemporary music notation – my mind wanders….why do I actually bother?

In der Fremde (6): Ludger Kisters in Neuseeland, Teil 1

Auf der Suche nach Berichten von Erfahrungen deutscher Komponisten im Ausland stieß ich auf den Komponisten Ludger Kisters, der wahrscheinlich die weiteste Reise von allen unternommen hat, nämlich nach Neuseeland.
Da Neuseeland so ziemlich der weitest vorstellbare Ort von Deutschland ist, wissen wir naturgemäß fast nichts darüber, außer dass man dort „Herr der Ringe“ (in dem Ludger sogar als Statist mitgespielt hat) gedreht hat und es irgendwie schön dort ist.
