Haben Sie schon eine Partitur ihrer neuen Oper und k&#246;nnen Sie mir dar&#252;ber etwas erz&#228;hlen? Wie haben Sie die Gesangsstimmen behandelt?&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>Ich k&#246;nnte heulen. Es ist n&#228;mlich so: &#8222;Tragedy Of A Friendship&#8220; ist <strong>KEINE OPER<\/strong>!!!!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Nicht, dass ich etwas gegen Opern h&#228;tte. Ich habe ja schon oft meine Lebenszeit damit verbracht, Opern zu schreiben, mindestens 11x (Kurzopern nicht mitgerechnet). Hinzu kommen Werke, die ich definitiv nicht als Oper sondern als Musiktheater bezeichnen w&#252;rde. Vielleicht sollte ich die aber auch &#8222;Oper&#8220; nennen (siehe unten).<\/p>\n<p>&#8222;Tragedy&#8220; ist aber weder das eine oder das andere. <\/p>\n<p>Bei &#8222;Oper&#8220; denke ich an Livemusik, an vertonten Text, vor allem an durchgehende Musik, die einen bestimmten Rhythmus vorgibt. Bei &#8222;Musiktheater&#8220; denke ich an all das, was nicht unbedingt exakt so ist wie &#8222;Oper&#8220;, aber eben auch live gespielt und gesungen wird. Im Grunde braucht man die zwei Begriffe auch gar nicht &#8211; ich tendiere immer mehr dazu, &#8222;Oper&#8220; als Sammelbegriff f&#252;r alle Formen des Musiktheaters vollkommen ok zu finden, da die Oper in ihrer urspr&#252;nglichen Idee und Begriffsverwendung ein gemeinsam geschaffenes Zusammenkommen aller K&#252;nste schon wunderbar bezeichnet. Ein &#8222;Gesamtwerk&#8220; eben.<br \/>\n&#8222;Musiktheater&#8220; klingt schon sehr gewollt und pseudo. Noch schlimmer ist aber &#8222;Labor&#8220; und &#8222;Werkstatt&#8220; (von unserem Kulturreferenten als Wunschvorstellung f&#252;r die Zukunft der M&#252;nchener Biennale gerne ins Spiel gebracht), das sind zwei Begriffe, die in mir un&#252;berwindliche &#220;belkeit erzeugen, denn ich will keine &#8222;Werkstatt&#8220; sehen, sondern das, was dabei herauskommt. Leider sieht man aber fast immer nur die Werkstatt und wie viel M&#252;he sich alle gemacht haben. Das macht aber nicht immer gutes Theater.<\/p>\n<p>In letzter Konsequenz braucht Oper auch nicht unbedingt S&#228;nger (Henze beauftragte einstmals erfolgreich stumme &#8222;Puppenopern&#8220;), aber auf jeden Fall ein Live-Erlebnis, ein Live-Aufeinander-Reagieren, eine durchgehende Musik, die eine Form von Rhythmus vorgibt.<\/p>\n<p>Ich will jetzt keinesfalls behaupten, dass wir bei &#8222;Tragedy Of A Friendship&#8220; das Rad neu erfinden, und dass man es unm&#246;glich benennen kann, weil es so etwas besonderes ist. Es ist einfach ein gemeinsames Werk von Jan Fabre, Stefan Hertmans und mir, bei dem alle gleichwertige Partner sind. Mindestens genauso wichtig sind die Ideen, die die Schauspieler, T&#228;nzer und S&#228;nger aus den langen Improvisationssitzungen entwickelt haben, und die jetzt langsam in eine g&#252;ltige Form des Abends m&#252;nden.<\/p>\n<p>Ich arbeite genau umgekehrt wie bei einer Oper: anstelle einer durchgehenden Partitur habe ich eine Materialsammlung erstellt (ca. 100 Minuten Musik insgesamt) deren exakte Verwendung am Abend noch zu definieren sein wird. Bisher gibt es nur erste Versuche, eine Reihenfolge festzulegen, aber diese sind erst am Anfang. Sicherlich werde wir noch bis zum letzten Moment &#252;berlegen, wo Musik eingesetzt werden wird und wo nicht, genauso wie Jan Fabre bis zum letzten Moment an der Szene feilen wird und an der genauen Verwendung und Abfolge von Stefan Hertmans&#8216; Text, der ebenso eine &#8222;Materialsammlung&#8220; darstellt.<br \/>\nIch hasse zwar den Begriff &#8222;Material&#8220;, aber anders kann man unser Vorgehen nicht bezeichnen: Wir versuchen das, was sich an Ideen, Musik und Bildern angesammelt hat, in eine schl&#252;ssige und g&#252;ltige Form zu bringen. Hoffentlich.<\/p>\n<p>Am ehesten w&#252;rde ich das Ganze als &#8222;musikalisches Theater&#8220; bezeichnen: Es ist ein St&#252;ck &#252;ber Musik, Musik spielt eine wichtige Rolle, aber es ist kein Theater, dass aus der Musik heraus entsteht. Eine reine B&#252;hnenmusik ist es aber wiederum auch nicht, denn die versucht vor allem zu illustrieren, wie auch Filmmusik. Das meine ich jetzt nicht abf&#228;llig: es geht einfach um die Reihenfolge. Bild zuerst? Ton zuerst? Hier ist weder das eine noch das andere der Fall, und das macht es so schwierig.<\/p>\n<p>Aber wie soll man das den Leuten mitteilen? Ich kann sie ja verstehen: Das Ganze ist in ganz Antwerpen mit einem Poster eines modernen Musiktheaterfestivals angek&#252;ndigt, auf dem allein mein Gesicht zu sehen ist. Da denkt man nat&#252;rlich zuallererst mal: &#8222;mannomann, schon wieder so eine moderne Oper irgendeines unbekannten deutschen Komponisten&#8220;. Dass es dann auch noch in der Oper Antwerpen stattfindet, l&#228;sst auch nur detektivisch einen Schluss zu: Oper in der Oper!<br \/>\nIst aber falsch.<\/p>\n<p>&#8222;Erwartet das Unerwartete&#8220;.
