(Teil 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>55 Jahre Good Vibrations \u2013 und jetzt SMiLE!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>ein Kalenderblatt von Jobst Liebrecht<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>( Folge 2 )<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Die \u201e <strong>SMiLE<\/strong>\u201c-Sinfonie von Brian Wilson beginnt mit einem\u00a0 a capella-Chorsatz, der \u201e <strong>Our prayer\u201c<\/strong> hei&#223;t. Er setzt am Anfang des Werks eine pathetische Ausdrucksebene, indem er Kirchenchorkl&#228;nge in der Tonart es-dorisch evoziert; er beinhaltet aber gleichzeitig versteckt auch einen humorvollen Hintersinn, indem er so prompt das Image der Beach Boys mit ihrem Markenkern, dem makellosen Chorgesang pr&#228;sentiert \u2013 und nicht zuletzt bietet er gleich eine &#220;berraschung:<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tqXibjCZy5Y?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=de-DE&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Reduktion auf das essentiell Wichtige betrifft alle Parameter dieser kurzen Minute Musik. Das Gesangsensemble singt reine Vokalise, keinen Text. Die Gestaltung der Vokalisen ist ausdifferenziert \u2013 man denkt unterwegs sekundenlang eher an Stockhausens \u201e Stimmung\u201c als an eine kalifornische Popband.<\/p>\n<p><em>Immer wieder wurde an \u201e SMiLE\u201c das Amerikanische hervorgehoben. Und Amerika ist ja in der Tat ein Land der Religiosit&#228;t. Selbst die 4. Sinfonie des Agnostikers Charles Ives beginnt mit dem Chor \u201eWatchman, tell us of the night\u201c. Religi&#246;se Hymnen bilden dort den allerersten Erfahrungsschatz, die Basis des gemeinschaftlichen Musizierens. Es entstand noch vor \u201e SMiLE\u201c und \u00a0sollte urspr&#252;nglich sogar Teil des Albums \u201e Pet Sounds\u201c werden. Und am Beginn von \u201e Good vibrations\u201c wiederum steht die Strophe nicht nur in der gleichen Tonart es-moll, sondern basiert ebenfalls auf dieser auskomponierten Quarte! Denn Wilson, das erkennt fast jede\/r schon beim ersten H&#246;ren von \u201e SMiLE\u201c, zitiert diese Melodien in variierten Fassungen nun auch zwischendurch im Verlauf des St&#252;ckes immer wieder. Mit \u201e modular writing\u201c kann man das beschreiben, in der Praxis sah es eher so aus, dass Wilson diese Melodien immer wieder neu aufgenommen hat in diversen Fassungen \u2013 er selbst nannte sie bezeichnenderweise \u201e <strong>Feels<\/strong>\u201c. Die neue Studiotechnik gab ihm die M&#246;glichkeit, diese Fragmente ineinander zu &#252;berblenden und zu verschachteln. Alles Pionierarbeit an wenigen Kan&#228;len, alles noch mit der Hand gemacht .<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c Jesus, that ear. He should donate it to the Smithsonian. The records I used to listen to and still love, you can&#8217;t make a record that sounds that way. Brian Wilson, he made all his records with four tracks, but you couldn&#8217;t make his records if you had a hundred tracks today.\u201d (\u00a0 Bob Dylan ) <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Es ist f&#252;r die sinfonische Idee, die hinter \u201e SMiLE\u201c steht, von der allergr&#246;&#223;ten Bedeutung, dass diese Reduktion der Melodien auf Grundmuster stattgefunden hat. \u00a0Im Vergleich etwa\u00a0 zu den Beatles k&#246;nnen diese ausdestillierten Melodien, die das Werk \u201e SMiLE\u201c &#252;berziehen, mitunter fast etwas reduziert und &#228;rmlich erscheinen. Nicht, dass Wilson nicht anders gekonnt h&#228;tte! Er hatte ja gerade eben mit \u201e <strong>Pet Sounds<\/strong>\u201c sein Meisterwerk f&#252;r Melodien und Kl&#228;nge in ihrer gr&#246;&#223;ten Vielfalt pr&#228;sentiert. Hier in \u201e SMiLE\u201c allerdings ging es ihm auf, ich m&#246;chte sagen philosophische Weise um ein Darstellung eines \u201e Urgrunds\u201c, eines Zusammenhangs in der Welt \u2013 was damals in der Klatschpresse &#252;brigens schon w&#228;hrend der Entstehung von \u201e SMiLE\u201c als \u201e religi&#246;se Wende\u201c von Brian Wilson apostrophiert wurde, und was mich in seinem spekulativen Element \u00a0ein bisschen an Charles Ives erinnert.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201e <strong>Child Is Father Of The Man<\/strong>\u201c zitieren Wilson und Van Dyke Parks schon im Titel eine Zeile aus dem Gedicht von William Wordsworth \u201e <strong>The Rainbow<\/strong>\u201c. Die experimentelle Material- und Spracherforschung solcher und anderer Nummern tritt am deutlichsten hervor in einem ca. achtmin&#252;tigen <strong>Montage-Zusammenschnitt<\/strong> , der nur die Background vocals der Beach Boys f&#252;r \u201eSMiLE\u201c enth&#228;lt und ein eigenes H&#246;rvergn&#252;gen bietet:<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/us-HaAZ42Uw?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=de-DE&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Es beschreibt das K&#252;nstlerische an \u201e SMiLE\u201c vielleicht am besten, wenn man erkennt: \u00a0NICHTS IST HIER, WIE ES IST ODER WAS ES VORGIBT, ZU SEIN. \u00a0Alles ist doppelb&#246;dig und verwandelt sich st&#228;ndig.<\/p>\n<p>Der Eingangschor \u201e <strong>Our prayer<\/strong>\u201c ist religi&#246;s, m&#252;ndet aber attacca in &#252;beraus weltlichen und albernen Doobedoobab- Gesang in \u201e <strong>Gee<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>\u201e <strong>Heroes and Villains<\/strong>\u201c kreist minutenlang um zwei musikalische Ideen, die sich, obwohl sie versuchsweise immer wieder wie auf dem Theater unterbrochen werden, \u00a0sozusagen festbei&#223;en ineinander, \u00a0um dann am Ende ganz pl&#246;tzlich und unvermittelt bei Minute 4\u00b417 aufzubl&#252;hen in einem v&#246;llig verr&#252;ckten Variet\u00e9-Orchesterklang \u2013 eine Stelle, die es als \u201e Durchbruch\u201c , um einmal an Adorno anzukn&#252;pfen, mit Gustav Mahler aufnehmen kann.<\/p>\n<p>\u201e <strong>Do you like worms<\/strong>\u201c \u00a0beginnt mit einem sozusagen stereotypen amerikanischen Blues-Zug in F, wie er langweiliger nicht klingen kann, in den immer wieder pl&#246;tzlich die Variante des \u201e Heroes and Villains\u201c-Refrains einmontiert wird, um gegen Ende bei Minute 2\u00b434 in eine seltsame, \u201e spacige\u201c Hymne im Hawaii-Dialekt zu m&#252;nden.<\/p>\n<p>Und so geht es auch in allen folgenden Nummern weiter. Ich k&#246;nnte endlos Beispiele auff&#252;hren.<\/p>\n<p>In dieser Doppelb&#246;digkeit liegt auch der gro&#223;e emotionale Gegensatz, der in \u201e SMiLE\u201c aufgehoben ist. Denn aufgebaut auf der Basis seiner &#252;beraus innigen und solide konstruierten Melodien, die laut Wilsons eigener Aussage immer Liebe zu den Menschen bringen wollen, nimmt \u201e SMiLE\u201c die gr&#246;&#223;te Vielfalt und Disparatheit von Einzelkl&#228;ngen in das Werk hinein, die immer wieder wie im Grand Guignol- Theater koboldhaft aufflackern, und neben jugendlicher Lebensfreude und &#220;berschwang auch von gro&#223;er Irritation und Getriebenheit, Angst und Not erz&#228;hlen. Dieses geschieht haupts&#228;chlich in den &#252;berleitenden Episoden. Hier gibt es zum Beispiel zu bestaunen:<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Nr. 6 \u201e<\/strong> <strong>Barnyard\u201c<\/strong> geben im Hintergrund der S&#228;nger konstant Schafe und andere Tiere ihre Laute von sich. In <strong>Nr. 13 \u201e I wanna be around\/Workshop\u201c<\/strong> \u00a0h&#228;mmert und klopft das ganze Ensemble mit Bauger&#228;ten herum. In <strong>Nr. 14 \u201eVega-Tables\u201c<\/strong> wird real Gem&#252;se gekaut ( die Naturkost- Bewegung war damals am Entstehen ). Wenn ich Melodien habe &#8211; und seien sie auch nicht so genial wie die von Franz Schubert oder Brian Wilson oder den Beatles &#8211; dann kann die Architektur eines Werks auf deren melodischen Elementarstrukturen basieren.<\/p>\n<p>Gleichzeitig hat der moderne Musikbegriff die Ger&#228;usche emanzipiert. \u00a0Jede\/r \u00a0Neue Musik- Spieler\/In und\u00a0 &#8211; H&#246;rer\/In wei&#223;, wie faszinierend diese sein k&#246;nnen. Die Abenteuer von Partch, Cardew, Cage, Var\u00e9se &#8211; sie fanden auch in der Pop- Musik bereits in den 60er Jahren statt. Vielleicht auf eine mehr kindlich-naive, spielerische Weise, die mir pers&#246;nlich sehr entgegenkommt.<\/p>\n<p>Und es ist doch eine wunderbare Vorstellung, dass ungef&#228;hr zur gleichen Zeit als Helmut Lachenmann in der Cello-Kadenz seines \u201e Notturno \/ Musik f&#252;r Julia\u201c in die Welt der Ger&#228;usche vorstie&#223;, dr&#252;ben in Kalifornien im Studio zwei Cellisten auf exorbitante Weise ihre Instrumente traktierten, sodass diese aberwitzigen Basstriolen zur Sirenenmelodie im Abspann von \u201e Good vibrations\u201c entstanden!
