Gleichzeitig suggeriert es, dass Musik der Gegenwart keineswegs schwierig und sperrig sein muss. Sie kuratiert das Festival gemeinsam mit ihren Uni-Kollegen, gro&#223;er Raum wird den Studierenden und ihren neuen Kompositionen zugestanden. Ganz dem szenischen Ansatz entsprechend, fand die Er&#246;ffnung des letztj&#228;hrigen Festivals Ende November in der Fertigungshalle eines heimischen Maschinenherstellers statt. Eine Soundlandschaft mit mehreren Stationen, im Anschluss ein Konzert mit Urauff&#252;hrungen des Symphonieorchesters der Universit&#228;t unter der Leitung von Christoph Cech. Als Artists in Residence waren die renommierten Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart zu Gast, auch sie widmeten sich neuen Werken von jungen Musikschaffenden. Die S&#252;dtiroler Komponistin Manuela Kerer gab eine Masterclass. Und als &#252;berraschend energetisches Ensemble hatte das Ralph Mothwurf Orchestra sein Deb&#252;t. Das Album \u201eThe Heart Sutra\u201c pr&#228;sentiert ein Konzert ihrer Kompositionen, die von der Cellistin Janel Leppin f&#252;r ein Sextett-Ensemble neu arrangiert wurden. Es ist eine Klangreise zwischen Ambient- und Neuer Musik sowie zwischen kammermusikalischen Interpretationen und Jazz-Formen, umgesetzt von Protagonist\/innen der US-amerikanischen Experimentalszene.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Inspiriert von Western- und Country-Musik, wechselte die 1953 in Cleveland geborene und in Baltimore lebende Susan Alcorn von der Gitarre zur Pedal Steel Gitarre und unter dem Eindruck von Pauline Oliveros und Olivier Messiaen erweiterte sie die Spieltechniken dieses elektrischen Zupfinstruments in Richtung Folklore und zeitgen&#246;ssischer Improvisation. Seit 2000 hat sie an die 20 Alben herausgebracht und spielte mit Joe McPhee, Mary Halvorson und dem London Improvisors Orchestra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Im Sommer 2012 war Susan Alcorn artist in residence an der New Yorker Kultureinrichtung Issue Project Room, dort kam es zur Zusammenarbeit mit Janel Leppin. Die Werke der 1981 geborenen Cellistin und Muli-Instrumentalistin umfassen ebenso modalen Jazz wie Experimentalelektronik, sie ist als Streicher-Arrangeurin f&#252;r Labels wie Dischord Records und Sacred Bones t&#228;tig und ver&#246;ffentlichte u.a. auf Tzadik und Editions Mego.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">F&#252;r das Konzert im Issue Project Room bearbeitete Leppin St&#252;cke Alcorns. Unter ihrer Leitung spielten Eyvind Kang (Viola), Jessika Kenney (Gesang), Anthony Pirog (Gitarre), Doug Wieselman (Klarinette) und Sk\u00fali Sverrisson (Bass).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Die St&#252;cke geben detailreiche Einblicke in Susan Alcorns Schaffen, wobei die Arrangements und Sounds einer Pedal Steel Gitarre in einen Ensemble-Klang umgearbeitet wurden.
